What seat is this?!? R1100RS 1 Year, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
OK, so I just inherited a 1994 R1100RS, that has a seat (pictured) I've never seen before.
It has a passenger backrest that flips down. As it didn't look particularly nice (to me, each his own) I was going to maybe cut the backrest off and then recover the seat.

So a couple things...

First, if anyone wants to trade a stock seat for this, I'm OK with that. It has no tears or anything, foam seems fine, I just don't like it.

Second, I can't figure out how to get it to flip back down. It was down, I pulled it up, and now for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it back down.

Last, I also cannot figure out how to take the seat off...now I even bought the owners manual, which makes reference to the barrel lock...but I can't find it anywhere. Only thing I can think of is either the seat ended up getting some kind of custom bolt-on install, or the barrel lock is somewhere under the plastic...but can't find it to save my life.

So if anyone has any ideas, or knows any of these answers, I'd be grateful...save me starting up my chain saw to get this off

Hi Joseph. Kinda looks like a Corbin to me. How to get it off: at rear of bike, just under the taillight, you will see a lock. Insert key, turn to right, lift back half of seat up, back, and off. Then you'll be able to remove the front half.

My guess on the back rest is that you'll see some sort of catch assembly underneath once you get the back half of the seat off. BTW, if there's a tool kit with the bike, you should find it in the tail section after seat removal.

Have fun!

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the tip on the rear taillight/seat thing...I never even looked there...weird as the manual I have shows it (or seems to) on the side...at least it seems to show a cross section against a frame or something...

I've never seen a Corbin with that kind of folding hinge though...so if it *is* a Corbin its a mutant variation I've never seen, usually they just have a post that slides in, and also the Corbin tag somewhere.

But I'll try the seat/key thing, as I can remove it and take that backrest off, maybe re-stuff the foam etc...

Appreciate your taking the time to respond...have a great weekend!

Joe

Heh...now it's official...I feel 2 inches tall...the keyport was in plain sight, back under the tailight...sigh. I was so busy looking at the sides I guess I just never even thought to look there.

And just to let you know, the seat *is* a Corbin...says Mike Corbin under the tag on bottom.

Anyway, again, thank you for your help. I'm only sorry I look so stupid in public
