How to jump start a 2002 R1150 RT 5 Months, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 0
My wife and I drove up to Milwaukee for an evening with friends and I parked the bike in their garage. I thought that I had manually shut down my GPS but I imagine that I did not properly perform that function. Then next morning we went for breakfast and then back to their house to get geared up for the ride home. Storms were scheduled to come through in the later afternoon. I went to start the bike up and no go. No juice at all.
So I think, no problem. I can push start this thing. I tried that 3 times off of his drive but there was no spark. Someone told me that you cannot start this model bike because it does not have a magneto or some other device. Is that a correct statement?
I could not figure out a way to get at the battery to jump start the bike without taking off the fairing. That seems like a crazy amt of work to get at the battery terminals. Is there an easier way to get juice to the battery?
By the time we got going I had already spent about 1.5-2 hrs making things work. We drove home in the rain. Not too bad but there was too much traffic on the little roads.

Thanks from a novice

Kaz,

I have an accessory socket on my 01 and 02 beemers that I use to trickle charge the batteries. I have never had to jump start my motorcycle, but would not use the accessory socket to do that.

I did a google search and found some information that might answer your question. I figured I should learn something about this as well. Good luck, Larry

The first two probabaly have your answer. The rest have good general information for others.
