Good morning to all...
I just joined this morning. I'm new in town, currently commuting from Detroit (where my family still lives), to Chicago (where my job is, in Schaumburg). Whenever I can, I do the weekend commute, as well as the work commutes during the week, on my 02LT1200 (with 78,000 miles on it). Recently my 'baby' developed a weeping - kind of oil leak. Nowadays I find about 10 to 20 drops worth of oil when I park her. Finally, the weather is getting good, but I want to get the oil leak looked at. Due to work-related circumstances, I'm very limited to thoroughly check it out myself (lack of tools comes to mind, for one thing).
Anyway - I rent in Downers Grove, work in Schaumburg, and am looking for recommendations on a local mechanic that can help me out, please. With proper arrangements, I can reach most areas of the city and still make it to work, at some point during the day. I belong to the Detroit Area BMW Touring Club, know the shops there, but have no idea about the official BMW shops in the Chicago area. Of course, I'd rather spend my hard-earned money with an independent mechanic.
Can any of you gentlemen please help me out with a mechanic that knows what he's doing, working on LT's?
I'm very fond of my bike (who isn't, I suppose), but she and I spent a lot of time together over the years...
Thank you very much.

Welcome to the Chicago Region, Frank! If you're looking for independent shops, two come immediately to mind:
Motoworks
1901 South Western Avenue
Chicago, 60608
(312) 738 4269
Seymour Goldberg
3510 North Elston, Alley Entrance
Chicago, 60618
(773) 617 8061
There are a number of Chicago Region members who own LTs and I'm sure you will be meeting some of them soon. Not being an LT guy myself (OK, I do have a K11LT, but it's not quite the same!), I have no idea what to tell you about oil leaks. And of course it does matter where the leak is coming from.
Anyway, best of luck and I hope we meet in person soon.

Good morning - thanks for the quick responses. I did check out the links on this site yesterday as well. Motoworks was closed for the day and Seymour is heading out to WY. Sounds like I may have to wait until the end of the month, when he returns, to get my bike looked at. Motoworks is difficult for me to get to, Seymour is a somewhat closer to my office...
Thanks again - and safe riding...

Well, to end my tale, I went to Gary in Downers Grove. I had to have the bike back last week Thursday, and Gary and his dad went well out of their way to make that happen. The service was absolutely outstanding, the price in line with the work involved, and I'm one happy camper, and can recommend Gary Mares very very highly.
Thanks for the tip, Lawrence
