Hi everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself since I'm new around here.

I don't ride yet. Never have. But I've wanted to since I was a little kid. So this is the year I don't let go by. I'm going to take the MSF Basic Course in the spring, find a decent runner airhead, and get out there. I've read a lot and talked to some of my friends who ride. I'm planning on taking safety seriously: I have a helmet (SA2005), and leather jacket (no armor, but real protective leather).

I've been a BMW CCA member for about five years. I'm a decent wrench and I have lots of tools. I've been Autocrossing these last two years so I understand traction and handling.

I'll need some help finding a good bike. I'd like a R75 or R80 because I think they'll be easier to ride than the larger ones and simple to work on. I'd like to spend less than $2000 and I'm willing to work on it. Shopping around, it looks like I'll be lucky to find a solid but cosmetically rough airhead.

Any advice? Especially on getting started without much money?

Hi Aubrey. Welcome to the family. Might you be planning to attend our general meeting tomorrow? If so, you can ask lots of these questions in person. Look forward to meeting you!

Thanks,

Sorry I can't make it tomorrow but I've subscribed to the calendar so I'll make it to an event soon. I'm really interested in the Motorworks Seminars.

Welcome aboard! This is a terrific group of motorcyclists and you can learn alot from each member. In addition to the meetings I'd highly recommend Hot Dog nights - a terrific chance to get to know your fellow club members and see their bikes.

If you've never ridden let me direct you to my school - www.lrn2ryd.com

Small classes, lots of bike time and personal atention make sure you have the skills needed to become a safe and competent rider. I'll be running two Lake County locations starting the first weekend in April - Gurnee Mills Mall and Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills.
