News Flash: Southwest Moto Tires is no longer the most inexpensive source for tires. I have been purchasing tires from Blain for over 15 years (he recently retired and sold out to Erik and the boys at Arizona Tire). I have tested them many times over the years and always found them to be the cheapest as long as I order two tires and avoid all shipping costs. Enter, BikeBandit.com with their 10% AMA member discount. If you are not an AMA member, you may want to either consider becoming a member or just not read on. But on a recent order of 2 tires I checked again and then my next order for 5 tires came from BikeBandit. Here are the economics.
I ordered two Michelon Anakee 2s from SW Moto for the total price of $265.90. The same thing from Bike Bandit would have been $248.88 for a savings of $17.02, plus Bike Bandit issues Bandit Bucks with each purchase to be used like cash toward your next purchase. This purchase would have proferred $12.84 in Bandit Bucks raising the total savings to $29.86 or a total of 12%. Not bad for a business with the margin so fine you can slice it with a razor. Now keep in mind that this example also
includes the extra charges that Bike Bandit adds for shipping, which is $7.95 per order and they pass along a $4.95 surcharge that UPS charges them to ship each tire. So don't get caught up on the incidentals as long as you are focused on the bottom line and it yields a net savings. Now you understand why my next purchase of 5 tires was from Bike Bandit. Hope this illustration helps club members save some bucks in the future. Remember, the more you ride, the more rubber you use and the more fun you are having. Enjoy!
