Engine Electronic Icon 4 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 1
Returning home from breakfast Sunday, I got the Engine Electronic Problem icon on the display on my 12GS. After about 5 hours in the garage, no more warning icon. It was very wet yesterday, so I suspect that some electrical part got wet. I'm weighing whether to get one of those GS-911 diagnostic thingys, but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what could cause this.

Thanks.

Ron:

I'd bet you're right about the weather causing the light to come on. If it went away, I'd just ride the thing. I sure wouldn't investng in an expensive gizmo for one occurrence. IF it keeps coming back AND you take it to a dealer or even someone like John Schepp and they can't diagnose, THEN only then would I spend money on the diagnostic tool...unless I really wanted the diagnostic tool.

I've got 45K + on my 1200 RT. Never seen this light come on and I've ridden in some extremely hard rain. Of course, I have a fairing.

Just noticed that you wrote this 9 months ago. That's how it goes with this forum. What was it?

Did you buy the analyser?

Hi Tom,

It only happened once, but shortly afterward, my gear shift indicator stopped working. I figure that moisture may have penetrated the housing, and maybe the warning icon was, well, warning me of this.

I haven't fixed it yet because the housing is in a tight place, between the trans and the swing arm. Heck, out of 16-17 bikes I've owned, only 2 have had gear indicators. Or maybe it was 3. Damn, I'm getting old and senile. Anyway, who needs it. I'll fix it if I ever have to remove the arm. (or the trans)

No, I never bought the GS-911.

Wow, autumn is here. Leaving tomorrow morning for Maggie Valley NC. Last trip of the year. Blue Ridge here I come.
