R75/5 sitting for 17 years... 1 Year, 9 Months ago Karma: 0
I have just picked up a BMW R75/5 SWB project with title. Only 5400 or so original miles on it. But it was disassembled in 1993 by someone who planned to do a custom thing, powercoat frame etc and then didn't know what to do with it once it was apart

He dropped it when he did some kind of wobble ( I hear this is common on SWB models)but no damage other than some scuffs.

Now I'm fairly mechanical so I know I should spray WD40 and oil in the cylinders before I try to put it through compression etc...and oil change etc before I actually try to start it. (So I don't shave the cylinders) Plus use penetrating oils and make sure to soak the pushrods etc...

But is there anything else uniquely BMW that I should do before I try to start this motor? I'm assuming (and hoping) that with only 54xx miles it won't have to be broken down and rebuilt etc.

Anything I should worry about on the trans other than change all the fluids etc?

If anyone out there has any helpful info or comments please feel free.

Thanks, Joe
