September 26-27 State Park Ride (with bridges) 2 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 1
This year's state park ride will include more visits to state parks that were closed for a short time last year. In addition we will ride by or through other state parks in north east Illinois. I'm including maps for those interested in a suggested routing. E-mail me if you would like the GPS file since it is too large for the forum. The roads are mostly two lane highways with a few county chip and oil roads. For those of you who don't want the ride both days I've included times and locations where we will be meeting. If you want to shave your arrival time or mileage you can jump on the interstates to make up time.

Schedule:

Saturday 10AM the ride starts at Lowden Memorial State Park just north of Oregon, IL. The park has a 50 ft. concrete statue of a Black Hawk Indian so park inn the lot just behind the Indian. If you want to come to Oregon Friday night, Lowden has a nice area for camping. We can visit Castle Rock State Park just south of Oregon before heading for lunch.

Saturday 11:30AM we have reservations for lunch at the White Pines State Park Inn. The park is just west of Oregon. The route after White Pines is 250 miles and goes by five more state parks before arriving at Kickapoo.

Camping Saturday will be at the Kickapoo State Park just west of Danville, IL. For those looking for additional comfort there are a number of motel chains on the east side of Danville.

Saturday night dinner will be at the Beef House in Covington, IN about 15 minutes east of Danville. Reservations will be for 7:00 PM under the name of the club.

Breakfast Sunday morning for the campers will be at the Kickapoo State Park. After breakfast those interested can ride to Rockville, IN and ride the red and some of the brown route to visit 10 covered bridges. Riders can stop for lunch at either the Rock Run Café in Coxville (on the red route) or at the Covered Bridge Restaurant in Eugene, IN. after completing the route. Once riders leave the bridge route in Montezuma, IN they will be 3 to 4 hours from Chicago. If you make all of this ride you will be covering 500 to 600 miles over the two days. Some of the riders from the East Central BMW club in Savoy, IL may be joining with us in the Danville area.
So parks, good to great roads, camping, great food and covered bridges all should make this a great weekend ride. See you at Lowden on the 26th.
