Chicago Region BMW Motorcycle Owners Assoccrbmw

In September 7 Brits are riding Chicago to Boston - 10 days. I live in Chicago, the rest are coming over.

Rough plan is
Chicago--New Haven--Port Huron--Keswick/Newmarket--Kingston--Rte 26/28 Adirondacks--Burlington--Smugglers Notch--Rte100 south-North of Rte 2 to Boston

or toying with the idea of following the south side of Lake Ontario to pick up the 28 into Adirondacks.

Basic rules are:
Minimal highway, no chain restaurants, no chain accommodation, local beer. We're not planning to take tents.

I've not ridden this area before and looking for suggestions on roads/accommodation/etc. Everything flexible right now
