CHICAGO REGION NEWS (January) NOW AVAILABLE

The current issue of the CHICAGO REGION NEWS (January, 2012) is now available via this site!

Click on the link at the right side of this page to get to it (you have to be logged in to see it). If the link is still not visible, then click on the the "Downloads" tab under "My Menu" on the left side of the screen to get to the list of documents you can view or download.

It's a .pdf file (Adobe Acrobat Reader will open it) and you can either view it on your screen or print it out.

We post these as they become available, usually just after the print copy arrives to most members in the mail.

Attention GS Enthusiasts!

President Hank Barta recently received the following communique from Beth Cooper at the BMW MOA National Office. We know there are lots of Chicago Region members who'd likely be interested in participating in the GS/GT Giant events next summer. If you're one, read on....

"At next year's national rally in Sedalia we will again have the GS Giant event. In addition there will be a street-only version, the GT Giant.  Both events will be run entirely by volunteers. We are looking for your assistance in helping get the word out to those who might be interested in helping.

"If you have members interested in assisting with the GS Giant event, please have them contact Ian Schmeisser at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

"Members wishing to help out with the GT Giant event, please contact David Grant  at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

"Here is a list of some of the tasks that need volunteers.

•             GPS route planning experts

•             Score keeping spreadsheet experts - work with us to tally everyone's score: we need an Excel guru + a backup

•             Data wrangler - someone to work alongside the scorekeepers to offload, organize and upload pics and videos.

•             Tour fixers - people with local knowledge and maybe a car to haul some food and beer.

•             Day ride leaders

•             Track construction, maintenance and dismantle - we'll need 3-4 people here in Sedalia for 3 days ahead of the rally to help build the track (don't worry, there will be some earthmoving equipment
involved!)

•             Track gate control - for Friday and Saturday

•             Track open session monitors

•             Judges and bike picker-uppers

•             Subject matter experts to give seminars - let us know what you're interested in doing.

•             Training assistants - this is still in development under the Rider Performance University program, but let us know if you're interested in helping out.

•             Photographer(s) - we need people who can shoot pictures and post on-line. We need people who have nice cameras and know how to work all the buttons. Photoshop skills very helpful.

•             Videographer/editor(s) - we plan to put together an event video and need footage and possibly editorial talent to help us get it all together.

Welcome to the CR

Welcome to the Chicago Region BMW Owners Association! That's a mouthful so I'll just abbreviate it as CR. I have written a "welcome to the club" letter that goes in the new member packets. I've tried to describe what we are about and to list some of the resources they need to know about. I'd like to share that information with present members as well so that you know what I'm trying to convey to new members. I also hope to update existing members on the club resources you should be aware of. Please read on (click 'Read More...' below) for the text of the message.
