By Paul Wilson
Maurice Green (Lt. Col. USMC Ret.) presented to the
General Meeting on May 8, first of all, several new new tents from Catoma Outdoor and secondly, a challenge.
Catoma Outdoors displayed its tents last summer
at the MOA rally in West Bend, where several of our members (a normally very
taciturn and amiable group) actually made suggestions for improvements Green and
his production manager last summer.
He, in his position as marketing manager, took
up the glove and redesigned four of the tents that he and his group thought
would be most appropriate for our motorcycle camping use.
The Challenge:
The four tents have been loaned to our club with the
understanding that we would use them AND fill out critique sheets for the
further improvement of the tents.
Our suggestions will be integrated into the production
models which will be available toward the end of 2008 for sale at 40 per cent
off retail to Chicago Region club members
Nuts ands Bolts:
I hold the tents for lending out to folks who wish to try
them. You can borrow one for an actual camping event like a rally, or you
may just try one out in your backyard (as I will, all of them). But we as a club
have committed to critique these tents for the benefit of our fellow riders.
So, you sign one out but you MUST also fill out a
critique sheet, because that is what he is trusting us to do. Need I add that the tent should be returned in
a speedy manner so some other member can test it?

poles.

Chitech: Recent Saturday Seminar |
When Getting Home is What Matters
This article originally appeared in the December, 07 issue of Chicago Region News. Our intrepid reporter was prepared in advance with a note pad.
Murphy says "If something can go wrong, it will."
Ed Dybala says "Murphy was an optimist."
Having offered that opinion, Ed opened his motorcycle top case and commenced to extract and display the spare parts and tools that he takes on a trip.
Most important of all is the Anonymous Book, published by the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, for phone numbers of local people who can help. (Ed also carries similar books for sidecar and airhead riders). And the parts themselves: jumper cables, spare clutch cable, alternator rotor, voltage regular, diode board, carburetor jet, long-nose pliers, light bulbs.
And more: fuses, a gas line, a flash light duct tape, particularly for riders of faired bikes.
"If you drop an airhead, you pick it up and drive away. If you drop a newer bike, there's plastic parts all over the place," Ed said. "Duct tape may hold those pieces together long enough to get home." |

Meeting location is moving.
As many of you might know by now, the Knights of Columbus Hall in Elmhurst has been sold. The acoustically challenged hall had been our regular meeting place on the third Thursday for several years.
The new owners have decided to do something else with the property and, as a result, the meeting hall will no longer be available to us. The December 20 meeting (our annual Christmas Holiday party) will be the last to be held at this location.
Jerry Sjostrom and Paul Wilson are both hard at work to find a suitable new location. Several alternatives have been identified but, at the time of this writing, no final arrangements have been made. Keep checking back to this space.
Any news of a final location and meeting dates will be reported here.
